On Black thoughts: dreams and joyful movement
Stepping onto fresh ground
I make a promise to myself
And a promise to the Earth
“I will take care of you”
I say hello to the tree in my backyard
My bones stand with the same integrity as her roots
We begin to share breath
She dances in the wind
I get quiet enough to hear her ancient song
It sounds so new
Wavy! Wavy
A wave shoots up my spine
And joyful movement is the only option
My spine a figure 8
My hips in infinite circles
My bones shift geometric patterns
My flesh bouncing with the rhythm
Never missing a beat
Every morning this ritual
And today, I look over and see my sister
“Fearless” tatted (tattooed) on her arm
And I feel that!
As the fear leaves my body
My heels leave the earth in unison
Then the arches of my feet
Then the balls of my feet
Then white toes (nails) on brown skin leave the earth
Before I could fathom this metatarsal survey,
I realize my entire body is living in the wind
And we are ascending
And it is as though we’d never felt pain in our bodies
Here, our movement becomes more luxurious
Taking up space
Heavenly stretches and sighs of relief
Gratitude with every breath
Fully releasing into joy
Fully releasing into love
Fully releasing into care
As we float higher
The tree dances with the more passionate wind
And I see her from above
We are still exchanging breath
In gratitude for the song, this song, that released the fear from our bodies
In gratitude for the information we gained from each other
What else can we learn from trees?
As we float above the tree
I realize that I must get back to the earth
And I take these lessons with me
And keep on dancing
Forming perfect circles
We’ve been here before, geometrically
And we will still be here
(And our bodies will never forget)
And we will still be here
(And our bodies will never forget)

Ian Fink dials up the funk on his juiciest release yet. You'd think there would be more modern techno/house music featuring keyboard stylings whose rich melodicism is more suggestive of '70s Stevie Wonder or Larry Heard circa his Sceneries Not Songs albums, but this novel combination can seemingly only be accessed by a True Keeper of the Sauce...and he's right here, folks! A whole album of material along these lines would undoubtedly be a masterpiece. Garret Kriston
